Summer Recap

The summer is an exciting time for the West Tennessee STEM Hub; I was able to work in the West Tennessee STEM Hub’s partnership with Autozone for the Autozone Summer Camp series. Memphis Public Libraries hosted the Autozone Summer Camp series, which provided a safe and secure space for the students until the end of the program. During this experience, interacting with the children and seeing their excitement to learn and complete challenges is unmatched.

The students had a chance to get to know each other and build friendships. Throughout the week, an opportunity for improvement is presented to the students. They needed to collectively develop a solution and presentation using engineering, enforcement, encouragement, education, and evaluation with their group. Each day a presenter would speak to the children during lunch, explain their backgrounds, their position at Autozone, their interests, and answer questions the students have.

Now that the semester has kicked off, I wanted to highlight my many experiences and the relationships we have been able to cultivate in school classrooms, after-school programming, extracurricular activities, conferences, parent-teacher meetings, and community gatherings.

One of the first leadership opportunities I had at the West Tennessee STEM Hub was assisting the teachers at Memphis East T-STEM (Transportation-Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) after-school program open to all Shelby County School students. The curriculum consisted of introductions, labs, and recaps to the lesson for that day and week: Materials Science, Biotechnology, Green Methods, Manufacturing, and Robotics.
