A Day in the Life

Hey everyone! My name is Essence Pitts, and I am a Civil Engineering student. Here’s what a day in my life looks like. As a commuter, I wake up at around 6 AM every day to drive my sister and me to school. On Tuesday I have three classes, but before that, I go to my STEM Hub assignment at an elementary school from 9-10 AM. I usually bring robotics kits from the Lending Library to do an activity I know the 3rd graders will enjoy. Afterward, I’m usually sitting in my car listening to music and doing some work before my Soil Mechanics class at 11:20 AM. Then, I have my materials class in the same room, same chair, same professor, and also many of the same topics. By the time this class ends at 2:30 PM, I’m starving, and luckily I have a 3-hour gap before my next class. Today, I went for lunch at one of the restaurants on the outskirts of campus called Happy Greek and got the Chicken Shawarma Bowl, 10/10. It’s so flavorful and makes me feel good. Because I didn’t have too much work to do before my next class, I took a trip to my favorite grocery store, Trader Joe’s, and got some things for lunch for the rest of the week and a couple of fun snacks.

Then, my 5:30 PM class rolls around, and though it gets a bit mundane being in class at such a late hour, luckily, my teacher makes reinforced concrete appear enlightening. Also, the fact that there are only two other students in the class forces me to stay focused for the entire hour and a half. There is currently construction going on for the new STEM building right next to our building, so we took a little field trip out and had the opportunity to see the construction workers filling column molds with cement and also saw the style of ties used to hold the rebar together. When I get out of this class, it is dark and cold outside; thus, I'm ready to go home, do my night routine, and go to sleep.
